This beautiful bias-cut dress by Stavropoulos is a rare and special find! It is made of a sheer black fabric lined in solid black through the body, and embellished with soft white and metallic gold eyelash dots to create a stunning motif. It has long sheer sleeves that button at the wrist and have a gentle puff at the shoulders. The silhouette is relaxed through the body, and the skirt is seamed diagonally, creating a full, fishtail that swishes as you move. The fishtail panel is seamed diagonally along the side, where the back of the dress falls to a point at the centre. It zips up at centre back.
Stavropoulos was a Greek designer from the 1950s to the 1990s, who moved to New York and began selling his eponymous fashion line to a celebrity clientele and on Fifth Avenue. He was known for his bias cut silk chiffon dresses, and the fluid, flattering fits of his garments.
