Whether we’re kids or all grown up, sharing the good news can sometimes be intimidating. By looking at a popular Easter candy, we can be reminded that even if it gets sticky at times, we need to stretch ourselves to show them the sweet truth of Jesus.
_______
“Come and see what God has done. See what wonderful things he has done for people!” Psalm 66:5 (NIRV)
Lesson 1: Sweet
Scripture: John 12:12-15, The Triumphal Entry
It was a sweet day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. The crowds laid down coats and palm branches to celebrate the King riding into town. The truth of Jesus is sweet, and we should share it with other people.
Objective: Kids will learn “Jesus coming to save us is sweet news worth sharing.”
Lesson 2: Sticky
Scripture: Mark 15:1-15, Jesus Before Pilate
Just days before the crowds were celebrating Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem. Now things had become sticky: the crowd had turned on him, the disciples had abandoned him, and the people were calling for Jesus to be crucified and killed. When we face sticky situations, it’s important to not lose our faith in Jesus.
Objective: Kids will learn “We can trust Jesus, even when things get sticky.”
Lesson 3: Stretchy
Scripture: Mark 15:25-32 & Mark 15:37-39, The Death of Jesus
Jesus stretched out his arms on the cross and died, not because the crowds had made it happen. He allowed it to happen, so that he could lay down his life to save those very crowds. Jesus gave it all because he loves us; we should stretch ourselves and give our lives to serve Him.
Objective: Kids will learn “I stretch myself when I surrender my will to God’s will.”
Lesson 4: Shiny
Scripture: Matthew 28:1-10, The Resurrection
There were no crowds at the tomb when Jesus rose from the dead. A bright, shining angel told the women to go and tell his disciples that Jesus had risen. It was their responsibility to “shine the light” to others that Jesus is alive. Even today, those of us who follow Jesus have been called to show Jesus to the rest of the world.
Objective: Kids will learn “I can shine for Jesus with my words and my actions.”
