With these two new organic matcha teas from Japan, my goal is to help consumers discover the Saemidori and Okumidori cultivars, which offer exceptional quality and a great value for money.
Like any plant, the tea plant comes in several varieties, known as cultivars or grape varieties. This is comparable to the world of wine, with grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Merlot, or fruit trees, with varieties such as Gala and Granny Smith apples.
Most matcha teas are blends of several cultivars (often predominantly Yabukita) to achieve a consistent taste regardless of the harvest year. This is the case with our very popular and highly regarded organic premium matcha tea.
Here we have single-cultivar Saemidori or Okumidori matcha, sourced from a unique "single origin" terroir in Kagoshima. It's very special to be able to taste the pure cultivar.
And I am really very proud of these two organic matcha teas. The quality is exceptional. Both have their differences and subtleties that make each sip a taste journey.
It had been my dream for years: to find a matcha that would allow me to taste a single pure cultivar of ultra-high quality (comparable to our ultra-premium organic premium matcha) at a super affordable price, and what's more, organically grown! Wow.
Everything falls into place. Whether you're a beginner or a matcha purist, a sublime experience awaits you with these two organic matchas.
These Saemidori and Okumidori matcha teas are of such high quality that they will transport you with their respective umami flavours.
I recommend trying these three preparation methods:
⛰️ Climate and terroir: Robust tea plant resistant to cold weather and producing excellent quality, late harvest.
✅ Advantages: Frost resistant due to late budding, good disease resistance, deep green colour.
👎 Weaknesses: No exceptional strengths or weaknesses.
📚 History: Hybrid between Yabukita and the native cultivar "Shizuoka Zairai #16" - cultivar #32 registered in 1974.

I love single-varietal matcha, and some of the best matcha in the world (like our hyper-premium organic matcha) are blends of several high-quality cultivars.
With these matcha teas, you can recreate a matcha tasting experience.
It's great to taste a blend when you've already tasted the individual components! This allows you to refine your palate so you can really taste the two distinct flavors and then experience the strengths of each cultivar at the same time in the blend.
That's why it's possible to order both 50g pouches at a reduced price (-5%).
To honour these exceptional organic matcha teas, you need packaging that lives up to the contents. That's why I asked my favourite tattoo artist, Neco, to design the packaging illustrations to make them beautiful objects in their own right.
Neco is a Japanese tattoo artist living in Paris (she also says she is a cat):

The concept: Neco designed kabuki eyes with the feminine energy and umami of Saemidori matcha in mind, and the more masculine energy and powerful velvety texture of Okumidori.
In addition to these 50g pouches, we also have mini 5g pouches in stock. Perfect for hiking, traveling, or giving to friends to help them discover authentic organic matcha from Japan.
Enjoy! 🙏 🍵
