Captured in 1975 on Alan Vega's two-track recorder in a basement under Lower Manhattan's Greene Street, these recordings were built around Martin Rev's newly acquired Seeburg Rhythm Prince drum machine, whose primitive Latin-style pulses formed the bedrock of the tracks. Rather than a sketchpad of semi-formed ideas, the tapes serve as an audio diary of two artists measuring themselves as they headed further into uncharted territory, a raw, essential document of proto-punk and electronic music at its genesis.
