Two more polio cases confirmed in Sindh

KARACHI – Two more polio cases were reported in Sindh on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to five during the current year.

The fresh polio cases have been reported at a time when a national immunisation campaign concluded in the beginning of this month with the authorities claiming to have covered 95 percent of the targeted area.
Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Project Director Dr Mazhar Khamisani said a one-year-old girl identified as Noor Bano, daughter of Ali Hasan, a resident of Badin district, was confirmed to be suffering from polio.

Her vaccination status is 3+6 and she has been detected with polio type-1 (P1) virus while the onset of the disease was on February 22, he added. The second case was reported from Soomaar village in Tando Mohammad Khan as 17- year-old boy named Umer, son of Jaaro. The vaccination status of the boy was stated to be unknown, with the onset of disease from March 4.
