Amar Guriro is an environmental journalist born Oct 4, 1976 in Khipro district Sanghar, Sindh, Pakistan. He is president of the National Council of Environmental Journalists (NCEJ), and Currently working for The Independent, London’s Urdu language edition, Independent Urdu in Karachi, Pakistan.
He reports on environmental issues and climate change and its impacts in Pakistan, such as water scarcity, crop failures, and migration. He also covers first-hand local stories about adaptation to climate change.
In the past, he worked with Sindhi language newspaper, Daily Kawish in Hyderabad, Sindh, Regional Times, and Pakistan Today in Karachi as a staff reporter. Later, he worked as Bureau Chief with Daily Times Karachi.
He has also contributed stories, features, photo features and video stories to several national and international media outlets including United Press International (UPI), Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News, Dawn, Newsweek, Newsline, The Thirdpole, Himal South Asian, The Friday Times, The News on Sunday (TNS), Geo News, Daily Jang, Karachi, and many other outlets.
He was featured as ‘Journalist of the Month’ in September 2019 by International Center for Journalists (ICFJ)’s International Journalists’ Network (IJNet). He has attended and covered several international conferences, workshops, trainings and seminars on environment, climate change and water issue including International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2011, which is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program.
He was also selected for Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) fellowship 2018, which is Internews, Europe’s Earth Journalism Network (EJN)’s fellowships for developing country journalists to UNFCCC and other major events. Under CCMP Fellowship, he attended and covered two international conferences including United Nations (UN) Global Climate Action Summit, held between September 12–14, 2018 in San Francisco, California, USA. and the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) also known as the Katowice Climate Change Conference. It was held between 2 and 15 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland.
He also attended the Earth Journalism Network (EJN)’s training of trainers (ToT) in Rayong province, Thailand, between March 28 and April 01, 2018.
